Jonathan Van Ness has revealed he's HIV positive and his beloved "Queer Eye" cast members are sending words of support.
The show's beauty guru opens up about his health in his upcoming memoir, disclosing he was diagnosed at the age of 25.
In "Over the Top," Van Ness, now 32, opens up about his history of drug addiction and sexual abuse.
“I’ve had nightmares every night for the past three months because I’m scared to be this vulnerable with people,” he said. “There are issues that need to be talked about.”
He revealed he tested HIV positive after fainting while cutting a client's hair, according to The New York Times.
“That day was just as devastating as you would think it would be,” he states in the memoir.
Van Ness also opens up about being abused at a young age by an older boy, which led to "self-destructive behaviors."
The star states after spending all his money on drugs in college, he “advertised sex for money on Gay.com."
Van Ness has been to rehab twice in the past for substance abuse, the newspaper reports.
Neflix's beauty guru describes himself in the book as a healthy and proud “member of the beautiful HIV-positive community."
He decided it was time to use his platform to speak on the matter because "I want people to realize you’re never too broken to be fixed.”
'Queer Eye' Co-stars Send Love!
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Van Ness called this the "most important opportunity I’ve ever had."
He also states he's "relieved" to get these difficult things off his chest.
Fellow "Queer Eye" star Antoni Porowski was quick to respond to his co-star's post.
"Love you proud of you," he commented.
The show's style guru, Tan France, wrote, "LOVE YOU, JACKI!"
His book, "Over The Top," hits shelves on September 24th.
