Queensland Communities Isolated as Floodwaters Swamp Roads

Floodwaters swamped roads in Queensland on Tuesday, January 17, after several days of heavy rainfall across the Sunshine State’s Central Coast.

The Bureau of Meteorology said Queensland’s Central Coast remained under a severe weather warning on Tuesday.

Floodwaters have left residents isolated in some communities, media reported.

Local media reported motorists became stranded on Bruce Highway near Proserpine, some for two days, with dozens sleeping in their cars. Some Queensland residents have been taking refuge in emergency accommodation.
