Queen Latifah will return as host of the NAACP Image Awards, as announced by BET, CBS, and NAACP on Tuesday (Mar. 5).

“We are thrilled to collaborate with groundbreaking megastar Queen Latifah and are elated to welcome her again as this year’s host! Queen Latifah, NAACP, and Pastis have been such incredible partners in amplifying Black culture, excellence, creativity, and ingenuity, and this year’s unforgettable show will be no different,” said Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, in a statement.

Additionally, poet Amanda Gorman will receive the Chairman’s Award during the live broadcast while June Ambrose will receive the Vanguard Award during the NAACP Image Awards Fashion Show—which will take place the day prior.

Leon W. Russell, Chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors, expressed, “Amanda Gorman stands as one of the brightest young voices in our nation and has emerged as a formidable force inspiring a new generation of leaders towards transformative change through her advocacy efforts and poetic brilliance. With her exceptional talent and unwavering commitment to positive change, Gorman continues to leave an indelible mark on the literary and social landscape, proving that words have the power to shape a better future.”

Gorman performed her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” at the 2021 presidential inauguration and her poetry collection, Call Us What We Carry, topped the New York TimesWall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller lists.

Ambrose was praised as a “fashion icon and cultural pioneer” by Karen Boykin-Towns, Vice Chair of the NAACP National Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Image Awards Committee.

Boykin-Towns noted, “June Ambrose has not only shaped the visual landscape of pop culture but has also elevated the conversation around the importance of diversity and inclusion in the world of fashion and entertainment. Her multifaceted contributions have left an enduring legacy that transcends fashion, paving the way for a more representative and dynamic industry.”

In addition to serving as a creative director and being the visionary behind some of music’s most memorable looks, Ambrose is also credited as the person who brought Puma back to Fashion Week under her tenure as Creative Director. She stepped in December 2023.

The 2024 NAACP Image Awards will premiere live on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and CBS (stream it online free on DirecTV Stream). Non–televised Image Awards winners will be announced starting on Mar. 11.
