Queen Latifah on Recent Police Violence: ‘It’s Time to Make an Example of Someone’

Queen Latifah stopped Friday’s Today show to promote her new movie, Ice Age: Collision Course, but the conversation quickly turned to the recent shootings involving police officers in Louisiana, Minnesota, and Dallas.

Queen Latifah comes from a family of police officers — both her immediate and extended family — which gives her a unique ability to see the issues from both sides. But just because some family members are cops, she doesn’t believe police officers are always on the right side of the law.

“It’s time to make an example out of someone, as far as I’m concerned, who is a police officer,” she said. “Because there’s no way all these things can happen and there’s no guilty police officers.”

Queen Latifah went on to say that she doesn’t want her father or brother to get shot because, “Some bad cops are doing this consistently.” She added, “It’s so tricky for us, but we gotta deal with it. We have to deal with it.”
