‘The Queen’s Green Planet’: First-Look At Conservation Doc Featuring Angelina Jolie & David Attenborough
Angelina Jolie is to star in a landmark documentary about the conservation efforts of The Queen. One-off doc The Queen’s Green Planet, which will air on British broadcaster ITV, features a unique conversation between Her Majesty and Planet Earth’s David Attenborough.
The network has offered the first glimpse of the doc, above, which features Queen Elizabeth and Attenborough talking as they walk around her garden at Buckingham Palace. The film, produced by ITN Productions, will also explore the monarch’s new initiative to create a vast network of native forests across Britain and the Commonwealth – the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.
Jolie, along with her children, appears in the film, while Princes William and Harry are also present. ITV’s Controller of Factual Jo Clinton Davis, who commissioned the doc said that The Queen’s Green Planet not only highlights the Queen’s interest in trees but also how an ambitious global project has spread across more than 50 countries. “Rare is the project that starts as a finite one hour documentary and ends up generating the momentum for a timeless campaigning event,” she added.
Meanwhile, Cineflix Rights, the international distribution arm of the Canadian producer, will start selling the doc to global broadcasters at Mip TV, which kicks off this weekend. Chris Bonney, CEO, Rights, Cineflix Media, said, “Royal documentaries sell really well internationally, particularly when younger royals are featured – in this case Prince William and Prince Harry alongside the Queen. Add in David Attenborough, one of the world’s most respected broadcasters, a global superstar in Angelina Jolie, a critically acclaimed director in Jane Treays, and you have in The Queen’s Green Planet a high quality, globally appealing film which is a step above other royal documentaries on the market. We’re launching it at Mip and we’ve already had strong interest globally, with several presales already secured. ”
The Queen’s Green Planet airs Monday 16 April at 9pm on ITV.
