Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls” Missing from Kids’ Streaming Platform

Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls” has been quietly omitted from the band’s Greatest Hits compilation on Yoto, a new children’s streaming platform.

The 1978 hit — written solely by the band’s Brian May — raised some eyebrows upon its release with lyrics like “Left alone with big fat Fanny/ She was such a naughty nanny/ Heap big woman, you made a bad boy out of me.” While the song technically doesn’t use any explicit language, the cover of the single originally featured a completely naked woman riding a bicycle; underwear was later edited on in later pressings.

Neither Yoto or any of Queen’s reps have commented on the matter, but apparently, some folks are chalking up the absence of “Fat Bottomed Girls” to “woke cancel culture”: “It is the talk of the music industry, nobody can work out why such a good-natured, fun song can’t be acceptable in today’s society,” one particularly angry “source” told Daily Mail UK. “It is woke gone mad. Why not appreciate people of all shapes and sizes like society is saying we should, rather than get rid of it. It’s outrageous.”

Yoto does warn parents about some of Queen’s lyrical content: “Please note that the lyrics in some of these songs contain adult themes, including occasional references to violence and drugs,” reads the Greatest Hits description. “These are the original and unedited recordings. Whilst no swear words are used parental discretion is advised when playing this content to or around younger children.”

So, at least for now, kids will have to look elsewhere for odes to bootyliciousness. Meanwhile, Queen and Adam Lambert are embarking on a North American tour this fall, and you can find tickets here. Lambert talked about what’s next for the band on a recent episode of Kyle Meredith With…, which you can listen to below.
