Queen Elizabeth II covers British Vogue for the first time, actress Anya Taylor-Joy joins in

Queen Elizabeth II, the most photographed and painted woman in the world, is now a British Vogue cover star for the first time.

A 1957 portrait of the longest-reigning monarch is featured on the April issue of the U.K. fashion magazine which includes a twin cover featuring "The Queen's Gambit" actress Anya Taylor-Joy. The double covers are in honor of the queen's Platinum Jubilee as she celebrates 70 years on the British throne.

"People are forever asking me what the color of the season is. Most of the time, they seem so disappointed when I explain that the answer is almost never definitive," British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful wrote of the April covers. "But for the coming months, I am calling it: the color of spring/summer 2022 is platinum."

In Queen Elizabeth II's cover portrait she is seen wearing the Diamond Diadem crown and Taylor-Joy, photographed by Craig McDean, wears "a replica for her own fantasy dress-up moment" to accentuate her Dior gown and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

The April issue of the magazine, which will be available on newsstands March 29, looks back on British Vogue's photo archives of the 95-year-old queen -- the first being in 1927 when she was just a year old. Other photos feature the queen as a teenager, on her wedding day with the late Prince Philip, her holding a newborn Prince Charles and many more intimate moments of her reign.
