Queen announces Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new royal titles

The queen has announced the royal titles she’ll bestow on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following their wedding today.

As speculated, the happy couple will indeed be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Prince Harry’s full title will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel, while Markle will be known as the Duchess of Sussex.

Queen Elizabeth II grants every royal union a set of new monikers, and the title of Duke of Sussex is vacant for Prince Harry to assume.

The previous Duke of Sussex was married twice, but neither of his nuptials were approved by his father, George III. Therefore, they were considered unlawful.

This means that Markle will be the first woman ever to hold the title HRH The Duchess of Sussex.
