East Carolina's Quay Johnson enters catch of the year contest with one-handed grab
East Carolina’s Quay Johnson might not be the most well-known wide out in the FBS, or even the American Athletic Conference for that matter, but you can expect to see him on highlight reels for the rest of the season.

The senior from North Carolina put on a show with a one-handed catch against No. 16 Virginia Tech to put ECU in field goal range.
Yeah, we’re going to need another look at that.
That’s as pretty a 27-yard pass as you’ll see all year. Johnson times his jump perfectly and extends over his defender, who has no clue where the ball is. Pulling that in is one thing, getting a foot down inbounds is quite another.
This is some absurd awareness from Johnson. Just imagine how many times the Pirates will rewind this catch in film study this week. You could easily spend 20 minutes on this clip and not get sick of it.
Even more important, the catch helped put ECU up 17-7 over Josh Jackson’s Hokies as the Pirates converted a field goal to cap off the drive.
Unfortunately for the Pirates, they needed a lot more of that kind of effort to keep up with Virginia Tech. The Hokies rattled off 57 straight points following that ECU possession for a 64-17 victory.
