Pussy Riot Announce 8-Week Autobiographical Theatre Piece

A Kickstarter is now available to help fund “Inside Pussy Riot”

By Evan Minsker.

Starting in November, Pussy Riot will spend eight weeks putting on an immersive theatre piece at London’s Saatchi Gallery. Created by theatre company Les Enfants Terribles, “Inside Pussy Riot” will depict Pussy Riot’s “epic ordeal when they were arrested, forced through a flawed judicial system and finally transported to a Russian jail.” Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova, a co-creator, will be taking part in a selection of shows—including opening night. Pussy Riot have launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise funds for the show. Rewards for backing include T-shirts, a signed book of prison tattoos, a work of art by Pussy Riot, and a tour of Moscow with Nadya. Watch a promotional video below.

“I’m asking for your support in an exciting new project,” says Tolokonnikova in a statement. “The audience will actually get the chance to re-live each one of these experiences themselves in London, learning what it means to be a political opponent in Russia today. We’ll take you on a journey from the cathedral altar deep into the vaults of the Kremlin itself. Hopefully, this is a journey that you’ll only have to make once in your life.”

Pussy Riot’s last release was 2016’s xxx EP. Their “Make America Great Again” video dramatized the early days of Trump’s presidency with riots, racial violence, and the torture of Nadya Tolokonnikova by smiling officials.
