PUP are sharing the first transmissions from their ongoing 2022 tour (tickets here) on a new live EP titled PUP Unravels Live in Front of Everyone They Know. It arrives on October 12th.
The EP consists of six cuts collected from a run of shows earlier this year in the band’s native Toronto. “Hometown shows always kinda [of] trip me out,” frontman Stefan Babcock shared in a statement. ” On one hand, they are the most fun shows to play. Toronto has always rallied behind us and we are so lucky to feel that love. But they are also stressful because you don’t want to screw up in front of everyone you know.”
He continued, “All of our families, friends, frenemies, the guy who used to sell me weed at the Wendy’s drive-thru, kids I went to elementary school with, my parents’ neighbors. It’s a lot. I think that sort of anxious chaotic energy is captured on these recordings. PUP live is PUP at our best and also at our worst. Raw, scrappy, and holding on for dear life.”
The band’s 2022 tour is in support of their fourth album THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND, which dropped in April behind the singles “Waiting,” “Kill Something,” “Totally Fine,” “Robot Writes a Love Song,” and “Matilda.” As a preview of the upcoming EP, the band has released live renditions of the latter two singles, available to stream below.
PUP will kick off the next leg of their tour on September 6th in Grand Rapids, Michigan before embarking on a month-long US trek followed by a UK/European jaunt in October. The band will be supported by Palehound and The OBGMs in the US and Pom Pom Squad, NOBRO, Poptones, and Pinpilinpussies in Europe. They also have a sole 2023 performance in the books in Long Beach, California on January 7th with Joyce Manor, Jeff Rosenstock, and Slaughterhouse.
