Public Enemy Share New Song “State of the Union (STFU)”: Listen

Public Enemy—yes, both Chuck D and Flavor Flav—have released a new song that targets President Donald Trump. The DJ Premier–produced track is called “State of the Union (STFU).” The central refrain from both Chuck and Flav goes like this: “State of the union/Shut the fuck up/Sorry ass motherfucker/Stay away from me.” The video mixes performance footage with video of protests and police brutality, including the killing of George Floyd. “Our collective voices keep getting louder,” Chuck D said in a press release. “The rest of the planet is on our side. But it’s not enough to talk about change. You have to show up and demand change. Folks gotta vote like their lives depend on it, cause it does.” Flavor Flav added, “Public Enemy tells it like it is. It’s time for him to GO.”

The new song arrives two months after a bizarre April Fools Day song release. After sharing new music from Public Enemy, Chuck D claimed in a statement that the very public “firing” of Flavor Flav was an elaborate April Fools hoax. Flav said he was previously unaware of Chuck’s supposed plan. “There are more serious things in the world right now than April Fool’s jokes and dropping records,” he said.
