It’s mad to think that it’s been 60 years since Alfred Hitchcock shocked the world with his groundbreaking horror film, Psycho. Since its New York Premiere on June 16,1960, audiences continue to revisit the terrifying story of Marion Crane, Norman Bates and the dark secrets hidden within the walls of the Bates Motel and the terrifying house that towers over it.

Psycho began as a best selling novel in 1959 by Robert Bloch, who was inspired by the then recent Ed Gein murders in Wisconsin. After the release of North by Northwest, which was a large big-budget adventure comedy, Hitchcock went the complete opposite route and wanted to adapt Psycho as his next feature film. He opted for a lower budgeted production, utilizing the same film crew from his hit television series, Alfred Hitchcock Presents. From these humble roots, Hitchcock was able to craft one of the most influential horror films of all time.

With Hitchcock’s direction, Joseph Stefano’s script, Bernard Herrmann’s masterful score and the iconic performances of Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins, Psycho still makes people look twice when they take a shower.

With spoilers ahead, take this quiz to test your knowledge of the iconic film.
