Lizzo was among many performers who paid tribute to Tina Turner after her death was announced Wednesday.

Turner, 83, who died in Switzerland following a long illness, was a cultural icon and an inspiration to musicians of all stripes, including Lizzo, an inspiring icon herself.

“Today we lost an icon,” Lizzo said midway through her set Wednesday night in Phoenix, Ed Masley of The Arizona Republic, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, reported.

“And I haven’t allowed myself to be sad. I haven’t allowed myself to cry about it. And I don’t want to right now because I’d much rather celebrate the incredible legend Tina Turner is. As a Black girl in a rock band, I would not exist if it was not for the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll.”
