Prosecutors Detail Kaitlin Armstrong's Alleged Jealousy in Closing Argument: 'That 3rd Bullet Was in Her Heart'

Prosecutors claim that Kaitlin Armstrong used a fitness app to track Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson's location before murdering her

Closing arguments have begun in the trial of Kaitlin Armstrong, who is accused of murdering a 25-year-old woman in cold blood an hour after the victim had dinner and drinks with Armstrong's boyfriend.

Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson was fatally shot on May 11, 2022 — and according to prosecutors, it was all because of jealousy.

"She stood over her after she shot her in the head twice and put another bullet in her heart," Assistant District Attorney Rickey Jones alleged during closing arguments on Thursday, according to reporters in the courtroom. "You heard the medical examiner. That third bullet was in her heart."

Prosecutors also referenced Armstrong's recent alleged escape attempt during the closing arguments. Armstrong was caught on video obtained by KXAN allegedly trying to escape officers in October of this year after a doctor's appointment. Travis County officers apprehended Armstrong after an approximately 10-minute long chase outside an orthopedic clinic, the outlet reported at the time.

"The state has made its burden. I'm asking you to find her guilty and don't let her run like she tried to do 19 days before this trial," Jones said during closing arguments, according to video of the trial shared by NewsNation and KVUE reporter Melia Masumoto and Fox News reporter Mills Hayes.

Armstrong, a former yoga instructor, was in an on again, off again relationship with professional cyclist Colin Strickland. During a breakup, Strickland began seeing fellow cyclist Wilson, but eventually reconciled with Armstrong, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

At the time of Wilson's murder, Armstrong and Strickland were together, but he remained friends with Wilson and went swimming with her before having dinner and drinks together on the night she was killed. Strickland dropped Wilson off at her friend's home, where she was staying on the evening on May 11. An hour later, Wilson's friend Caitlin Cash found her suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

During the trial, prosecutors claimed that Armstrong used a fitness app to track Wilson's location to where she was staying in Austin on May 11. She also began to monitor her whereabouts on social media in the days before the killing, prosecutors claimed.

A friend of Armstrong's also testified that Armstrong said, "I would kill her," after the friend asked what she'd do if Strickland dated anyone else, PEOPLE previously reported.

Armstrong is also accused of fleeing to Costa Rica in the days following the murder. She was captured on June 29 after 43 days on the run, the U.S. Marshal Service announced at the time and revealed that she used a fraudulent passport on May 18 to flee the country. When she was returned to the U.S., she was charged with murder in connection with Wilson's death. She pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, she faces life in prison.
