There’s plenty to speculate on about the next royal wedding. What will Meghan Markle wear? Who will be her bridesmaids? Will the ceremony be traditional or have a modern flair? While we’re going to have to wait until next year to know for certain, some people are having fun — and making money — guessing.
The online betting site Bovada offers a slew of bets you can place on the royal wedding, and gamblers are already counting their odds.
Who will Prince Harry chose to be his best man?
Interestingly, royal weddings don’t technically include a best man. When Prince William asked his brother, Prince Harry, to be his best man for his 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton, he broke with royal tradition. The odds are pretty high that Prince Harry will return the favor by asking his brother. The official stats on Bovada are 1/33.
Should Prince Harry really want to shake things up, he could ask his longtime friend, Thomas Inskip. While it’s almost a given Prince Harry will ask Prince William, Inskip is a solid choice if you want to take a risk. Prince Harry attended Inskip’s wedding in Jamaica earlier this year, which also happened to be one of his first public outings with Meghan Markle.
If you’re looking for a high-risk, high-return scenario, place your bet on actor Wendell Pierce. While he has no connection to Prince Harry, Pierce played Markle’s onscreen father on USA’s Suits. You’ll make a pretty penny on the off chance Prince Harry chooses Pierce as his best man. The odds are 100/1.
Who will perform at the royal reception?
There is a long list of British performers who might be asked to entertain for the big party, but the odds are in Sir Elton John’s favor, at 5/4. John is a longtime friend of the royal family, and was especially close to Princess Diana. Prince Harry has worked alongside the singer for years in the fight against AIDS. Proving that this really is a small world, Markle also joined John’s cause at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Benefit in 2014, two years before she met Prince Harry.
Ed Sheehan is also a friend of the royals. Just this month, the 26-year-old singer was appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire. He was given the honor by Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles. His odds of actually performing, however, are set at 4/1.
Ellie Goulding sang during Prince William and Kate Middleton’s reception, so the chances of her being asked to perform at a second royal wedding are slim, at 12/1 odds. However, the biggest reason for her being passed over probably has nothing to do with the fact she has already had the gig. Goulding was romantically linked to Prince Harry just last year, and you know the rules about inviting exes to weddings — even the rumored ones.
Which designer will create Meghan Markle’s wedding gown?
As one of this decade’s most popular brides, Markle quite literally has her pick of any designer in the world to create her wedding dress. Chances are, however, she’ll go with one familiar to the royal family. Erdem has the highest chance, with 2/1 odds. The Canadian-Turkish designer is a favorite of Kate Middleton and her sister, Pippa.
Someone who is familiar both to Markle and the royal family, however, is Roland Mouret. The actress has worn his designs several times on the red carpet, and Middleton often chooses the designer for galas. The odds of Mouret winning the wedding dress lottery are 11/2.
Although he’s not on the Bovada list, a gambler would place his bet on designer Narciso Rodriguez. In a 2016 interview with Glamour, Markle explained that her favorite celebrity wedding dress was a Rodriguez slip design worn by Carolyn Bessette Kennedy when she married John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996.
