HULL – Author and longtime sea captain Linda Greenlaw will present a lecture at the Memorial Middle School in Hull.

Greenlaw will share the lifesaving lessons learned during her fast-paced career as the only female swordfishing boat captain on the East Coast.

She was featured in the 1997 book “The Perfect Storm” and the subsequent blockbuster movie of the same name. In the novel, author Sebastian Junger calls Greenlaw “one of the best sea captains, period, on the East Coast.” Greenlaw was the only female swordfishing boat captain at the time. In the movie, she was played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

Among her numerous works, Greenlaw has written three best-selling books about life as a commercial fisher: “The Hungry Ocean,“ "The Lobster Chronicles" and “All Fishermen Are Liars.”

She now lives on Isle au Haut, Maine, where she captains a lobster boat.

The lecture begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. The school is located at 81 Central Ave. Tickets are $15 for student and $30 for adults, and can be purchased at Hulllifesavingmuseum.org under the “special events” tab.
