Work progresses on 2 Beaver stages that will host outdoor concerts & events
BEAVER ― Work is progressing on two new stages expected to open in Beaver this year.
Recent visitors to Quay Square, a block east of the Beaver County Court House, have noticed the addition of a concrete stage with steps. Adjacent to Turnpike Street, the stage will include a roofed bandstand now being erected in Ohio.
The stage area will be landscaped, with a future development phase for Quay Square also recommending a new paved central area with a curved sidewalk.
Plans call for the stage to be ready in spring, Beaver Manager Dan Madgar said.
Referred to as the Quay Park stage, the site will accommodate smaller events and concerts. Private donations, including Friends of The Beaver Parks, have spearheaded the project.
Work also continues on a new community center with an outdoor stage at the former Beaver Pool.
Heating and air conditioning are expected to be finished this week, with drywall also ready to commence for the indoor meeting space.
Granati Paint & Design Co., owned and managed by Jules Granati, will do the painting.
Bingo nights, fundraisers and family-oriented events are some of the expected uses for the center, as part of a partnership involving Beaver Borough, the Beaver Area School District and Beaver County Tourism.
"This will be a great asset not only for Beaver, but the whole county," Madgar said.
Organizers hope the center's outdoor stage will host its first concert in July, calculating the lawn area could accommodate a crowd of 1,500. Already booked for July 13 is Chippewa Township native/Nashville recording artist Don Gatlin leading Through The Years, featuring longtime members of the Kenny Rogers band.
