A Professor Says Black Descendants Of U.S. Slavery Should Get $350,000 In Reparations – Hear His Plan

Many people claim the way to solve the disparities between the races in the United States is to pay reparations, compensation in the form of money, homes, or land, to compensate Black citizens and acknowledge the harm caused by Black enslavement in America. If a reparations proposal is passed, how does America come up with a plan that makes sense? Dr. William Darity, the Samuel Dubois, Professor of Public Policy and Economics at Duke University and author of “From Here To Equality: Reparations For Black Americans In The Twenty-First Century,” says he has a plan. “The first condition is that reparations should be paid to Black Americans whose ancestors were enslaved in the United States,” Professor Darity says. “The second is how much should be paid? The amount should be dictated by the disparity in wealth between black and white Americans, which, at the current moment, amounts to in excess of $840,000 per household.” Hear more of Professor Darity’s plan in the video above, including how he believes the plan should be funded. Plus, hear Dr. Phil’s thoughts. On Tuesday’s episode of Dr. Phil, "'Should We Allow Reparations to Black Americans?'" Dr. Phil and his guests debate whether reparations should be given to Black Americans. Check local listings to see where you can watch.
