Pro wrestling legends invade IWR 24-The Fall Brawl

MONROE — Pro wrestling fans packed the House of Insanity, the Robert A, Hutchinson FOP Lodge 1051 Strasburg Road on Thursday night for IWR 24-The Fall Brawl.

The night introduced fans to new and returning IWR wrestlers along with a surprise appearance from pro wrestling legend Sabu.

The night featured four VIP matches starting off with ECW and pro wrestling legend The Franchise Shane Douglas defeating Ohio State’s Buckeye Sam by disqualification due to interference by Coach Dutch.

Next up was the IWR Ten-Man Battle Royal featuring Ryan Matthias, Ace Evans, Sam Beale, OX, Forever Young, Nikki Ratu, Martian Webb, Damian Chambers, Zach Thomas and Cody. The Perminator Sam Beale came out victorious but his celebration was short-lived when Strongman Big Flex returned to IWR, met Sam in the middle of the ring and power bombed him onto the mat before leaving the ring and heading to the back.

The next VIP match featured two former WWE NXT wrestlers making their IWR debut, Sarah Baer and Gina Marie. The two athletes battled in the ring before Baer gained the victory.

The finale of the VIP section put Honkrgeous The Rodrageous Rod Lee and The Kenny Urban against Iowa’s Cajun Kid and The Huntsman. The match ended with the Seth Rollins-trained Cajun Kid and Huntsman coming out on top.

During intermission, the crowd was entertained by Benjamin Boone's The Bachelor Pad featuring special guest The 24k Lion Jeremiah Goldmain.

The main card for IWR 24 started off with The Most Dangerous Man in Michigan The DBA, The Draw Sami Callihan and Monroe’s own Man Beast Rhino taking on the team of IWR World Heavyweight Champion NWA’s King Thomas Latimer and the CWO’s Amazing N8 Mattson and Karam. The match was hard-hitting, spilling out into the crowd before the lights went out. Seconds later with lights on, standing in the middle of the ring was ECW Legend Sabu with his signature pose, receiving a standing ovation. Sabu threw a steel chair at N8 Mattson, allowing Rhino to hit Mattson with his signature gore to get the pinfall.

Next was a championship versus career match with TNA Superstar and IWR United States Champion The Inevitable Ace Austin putting his title on the line against The Dread King Logan’s career. This was the second time these two men fought in the IWR ring. After a grueling match, Ace took the win, retaining his title. As a gesture of respect, Ace shook hands with Logan before leaving the ring. Shane Douglas came out to offer words of encouragement to Logan since he himself had a similar fate during his career and said if he ever wanted to return, he would have the blessing of Ace, himself and the IWR world.

“Dread King has been a wonderful IWR champion, a locker room leader and an amazing person and will be missed by all at Insane Wrestling Revolution,” said Gary Pillette, co-owner of IWR in a written statement.

The IWR World Tag Team Title match featured IWR Tag Champs Shogun Jackson Stone and Papa Dingo versus The Hatekeepers. As the champs were about to secure the victory, The Cajun Kid and Huntsman, also part of Iowa’s Hatekeepers, interfered causing the champs to be disqualified.

The finals of the Inaugural IWR Kangaroo Cup Tag Team Tournament featured family versus family when Death Threat Army’s Tommy Vendetta and Isaiah Broner went up against fellow member of Death Threat Army Jack Price and Aaron Orion. Ultimately Price and Orion got the victory but not without some controversy as Tommy Vendetta’s leg appeared to be on the ropes during the three count. Price and Orion took home the trophy. During the trophy presentation, all four Hatekeepers appeared at ringside with The Cajun Kid calling out a Death Threat Match on Dec. 28 at IWR 25.

Following the second intermission, TNA’s Mean Gia Miller and Miss Canada Kelly Moore faced John E. Bravo and TNA’s Havok in tag team action. Bravo’s antics and Havok’s power weren’t enough and the team of Gia and Kelly got the surprising win to the delight of the crowd.

The last match of the night was the highly anticipated main event between TNA superstars The Young Goat Myron Reed and Top Notch Jason Hotch. Both athletes, former teammates, put on an intense high flying, hard hitting Insane Rules fight throughout the House of Insanity. Reed held down Hotch at one point in the crowd allowing a row of fans to chop Hotch’s chest. Later in the match, Hotch hit a Cutter from the top rope onto Reed, who was in the crowd. Reed dove over the top rope onto Hotch, sending both men into rows of fans. Hotch was then put through a steel trash can. The match ended with Reed hitting a Cutter onto Hotch, sending him through a table from the top rope to gain the victory. Following Reed’s win, the former IWR Tag Champ thanked the crowd and said he wanted to set his sights on more IWR gold. Reed then challenged IWR U.S. Champion Ace Austin to a title match at the IWR four-year anniversary show Dec. 28. Ace returned to the ring and accepted the challenge.

Generous fans donated to IWR’s annual food drive and produced a truckload of food, clothing and money for Oaks Of Righteousness Homeless Shelter and Food Bank.

Throughout the night, IWR ring announcer Mark Roberts informed that at IWR 25-Seasons Beatings, WWE Hall of Famer and AEW Superstar Bad Ass Billy Gunn will return to the IWR ring.
