Priyanka Chopra Jonas once walked off a Bollywood film after a “dehumanizing moment” with the director.

In an interview with The Zoe Report, Chopra Jonas spoke about an encounter she had early in her Bollywood career. Tasked with playing a character who goes undercover, Chopra Jones was purportedly asked to remove her clothing as part of a seduction scene.

“This may have been 2002 or ‘03,” the 40-year-old actor recalled. “I’m undercover, I’m seducing the guy – obviously that’s what girls do when they’re undercover. But I’m seducing the guy and you have to take off one piece of clothing [at a time].”

“I wanted to layer up,” Chopra Jones confessed. But according to the actor, the director had other opinions, stating, “No, I need to see her underwear. Otherwise why is anybody coming to watch this movie?”

Rather than speaking directly to Chopra Jones, the director allegedly only addressed the actor’s stylist.

“It was such a dehumanizing moment,” Chopra Jones added. “It was a feeling of, ‘I’m nothing outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I contribute is not important.’”

Unable to “look at [the director] every day,” Chopra Jones eventually walked off set two days after the event. According to the actor, she also made sure to pay — with her father’s urging — what the production had spent out of her own pocket.
