Priyanka Chopra Jonas is opening up about a "dark phase" of her life when she thought her acting career was in jeopardy.

The "Citadel" star revealed on "The Howard Stern Show" Monday that a botched surgery early in her career led her to lose several acting jobs. In the SiriusXM radio interview, Jonas recalled a time doctors recommended she get a polyp removed from her nose shortly after she won Miss World in 2000, resulting in a compromised procedure.

"This thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression," Jonas said, adding that she thought her screen career was "over before it started."

Jonas wrote about the surgery in her 2021 memoir "Unfinished." According to People and Entertainment Tonight the actress wrote that during the surgeries doctors accidentally shaved the bridge of her nose while removing the polyp, leading her nose to collapse.

"Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow," she wrote.

Jonas told Stern in Monday's interview that her dad encouraged her to get corrective surgery.

"I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you,’” she said. “He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence.”

Nearly 23 years after the surgery, the star is heading Prime Video's six-episode espionage escapade "Citadel," executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo. The series kicks off a planned new spy universe with Jonas starring as Nadia alongside Richard Madden, who plays her spy partner and onetime lover, Mason Kane.

"This is a massive global undertaking," Jonas, who trained up to five days a week to step up her action game, told USA TODAY. "It takes a ridiculous amount of precision to punch someone with all your body force and stop right before you take their eyeball out."

Jonas is also gearing up to star in upcoming movie "Love Again," which premieres Friday.
