‘Priscilla’ trailer: Cailee Spaeny takes center stage in Sofia Coppola’s new film [Watch]

Days before Sofia Coppola’s film “Priscilla” makes its North American debut at the New York Film Festival, A24 has debuted a new trailer for the project, offering a tantalizing glimpse of Best Actress contender Cailee Spaeny in the title role.

Based on the book “Elvis and Me” by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon, Coppola wrote and directed the new film, which focuses on the romance between Priscilla Beaulieu and Elvis Presley. Here’s the plot summary provided by A24:

When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.

Spaeny is one of many actresses who have received awards attention in what is an already stacked Best Actress race. But she’s already received one significant precursor: the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival. Past winners who have gone on to secure a corresponding Oscar nomination include Cate Blanchet for “TAR,” Penelope Cruz for “Parallel Mothers,” Vanessa Kirby for “Pieces of a Woman,” Olivia Colman for “The Favourite,” and Emma Stone for “La La Land.”

In addition to Spaeny, “Priscilla” stars Jacob Elordi as Elvis. A24 will release the film in theaters on November 3. Watch the trailer here:
