Princess Madeleine Reveals Her 'Normal' Life as a Mom: 'Breakfast Flies All Over the Place!'

Yes, she’s in line to the Swedish throne, but Princess Madeleine is a mom first.

In fact, the royal, 34, says her everyday routine with daughter Princess Leonore, 2½, and son Prince Nicolas, 15 months, is just like any other parent.

“It’s pretty much like a normal mom,” the royal exclusively told PEOPLE at the World Childhood Foundation USA ThankYou Gala in New York City.

“They wake me up and we fix breakfast together and the breakfast flies all over the place!” she adds. “And then we go out to the park and we swing, we try to do a lot of activities because my little Leonore, she has lots of energy, so we have to keep her stimulated and busy.”

Madeleine’s husband, British-American businessman Chris O’Neill, also enjoys the family of four’s daily routine.

“My husband Chris really likes the evenings, when it’s bath time and that whole routine of putting them to bed,” she shares.

The royal says her hands-on approach to motherhood is inspired by her own childhood.

“I think because my mom and father, of course, were so devoted to their work and as King and Queen, they have lots of obligations, so they were away quite a bit when we were small. But when they were home, they were very present and I feel that I want to give my children as much as I can,” she says.

And just like proud parents everywhere, Madeleine can’t help herself when it comes to sharing adorable photos of her kids on Facebook.

“For me to blend in a little bit of my personal life [on social media] and to show who I am and who my family is, is important,” she says.

Madeleine, who was in New York last week to unveil her new app to protect vulnerable children everywhere, says she hopes her kids follow in her footsteps when it comes to her efforts on behalf of kids all over the world.

“I would love that, but of course, it’s important to see what they’re passionate about,” she says. “I would be very happy if they do – just as I think my mom is very happy that I’m following her. (Madeleine’s mother, Queen Silvia, started the World Childhood Foundation 17 years ago.)

“I would be very proud if they take on these issues as well.”
