Princess Eugenie moves into Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan's U.K. home

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have opened up Frogmore Cottage, their U.K. home, to Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.

A source familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly confirmed to USA TODAY that the royal couple is delighted to allow Eugenie and Brooksbank to move in as they start their own family, though it remains Harry and Meghan's home across the pond.

USA TODAY has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.

Princess Eugenie, 30, is Harry's cousin and the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. Eugenie married Brooksbank, a former bartender turned tequila brand representative, in 2018 and announced in September that the couple was expecting their first child in early 2021.

Harry and Meghan currently live in Santa Barbara, California, where they bought a house several months ago after announcing in March that they would be stepping back from their royal duties. They moved to Canada for a few months before settling in the U.S., where Meghan is from.

A spokesperson for the royal couple said in September that Frogmore Cottage would remain the home of Harry and Meghan when they visit the U.K.

Though it has "cottage" in the name, the home isn't exactly quaint. It's a 17th-century manor located on the 35-acre Windsor Castle Home Park estate, in the town of Windsor in the London exurbs, within the tight security zone around the castle.

In September, Andrew repaid 2.4 million pounds ($3.2 million) in British taxpayers’ money that was used to renovate the home before they moved. Harry had made a contribution to the Sovereign Grant, the public money that goes to the royal family, which “fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage," according to the spokesperson.

Royal accounts for 2019 show that the money was spent on structural work, rewiring and new flooring. Harry and Meghan agreed to pay back the renovation costs and start paying rent as part of the plans drawn up when they quit as senior working royals in March.
