Private Letters Written by Princess Diana, With Touching Family Stories, on Auction

Some private letters written by Princess Diana have surfaced, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the royal family’s life between 1984 until 1993. The collection of handwritten notes will be auctioned off in Cambridge, England, next month.

The correspondence, never before published, was addressed to Cyril Dickman, who served as a steward at Buckingham Palace for over 50 years, and with whom the princess apparently enjoyed a close friendship.

One letter, dated Sept. 20, 1984, was written soon after the birth of Prince Harry. The proud mother wrote, “William adores his little brother and spends the entire time swamping Harry with endless supply of hugs and kisses, hardly letting the parents near.”

Fast forward to 1992, when Princess Diana gave Dickman an update on her two sons. She said, “The boys are well and enjoying boarding school a lot, although Harry is constantly in trouble.”

In 1993, the princess also sent him a thank you card after the death of her grandmother. The beloved princess died after a car crash in Paris in 1997.

The rare letters, said to be valued at 15,000 pounds sterling, will hit the auction block in the New Year. Other items in the same auction include signed Christmas cards from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
