Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have grown up royal, and with that comes unwarranted criticism. Now, we know Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s response to body-shaming and other criticism they’ve received from the public. The daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have been in the limelight since they were infants. As such, the public hasn’t always treated them with kindness.

Along with criticism for their bodies and their personal lives, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been mocked for their unique style choices — most notably for the fascinators they wore to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011. What’s more, the sisters have even been ridiculed for balancing careers alongside their royal duties.

“Being role models has always been a hard one for them to deal with, and being criticized for their weight, fashion and work lives has always been hard for them to swallow,” a source told People. “But in the last couple of years both girls have come around to the fact they’re women now, and they can do a lot of good with their status.”

Despite the criticism, it’s refreshing to see the sisters work to make the most of their position, while trying to maintain semblances of normal lives. “Yes, their grandmother is Queen, and they ride in carriages and live in this bubble,” a friend of the princesses told People. “But they’re human beings who want to fall in love, have a good time, make a difference and just live.”

In October, Princess Eugenie marred businessman Jack Brooksbank and has since been settling into married life while still appearing with her sister at events like Trooping the Colour. The Princess has also used her influence to form The Anti-Slavery Collective, which is dedicated to abolishing modern slavery by advocating on behalf of vulnerable women and children.

Princess Beatrice also has a serious partner in businessman Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. For her charitable work, Princess Beatrice focuses her efforts on children’s welfare and education and has particular interest in organizations that focus on learning difficulties, as she lives with dyslexia.

“They are independent, working women but are also aware of their position and where they can help,” the family friend told People. Their mother, Sarah Ferguson, agrees. “Their actions show their commitment and dedication to their grandmother and this country,” Fergie previously shared with People about her daughters. “It’s so great to see them shining.”
