Princess Anne Reminded Me So Much of Her Mom Queen Elizabeth During Her Garden Party Appearance

Princess Anne, 73, embodied her late mother, Queen Elizabeth, as she interacted with guests during the Not Forgotten Association garden party held at Buckingham Palace in London on Friday, May 17.

A few days ago, the British royal family posted an assortment of photos taken at the annual event on their official Instagram page. I couldn’t help but think of the late monarch as I viewed the first pic in the slideshow, which shows the Princess Royal (in a monochromatic outfit reminiscent of her mom) moving with such grace and elegance as she shakes hands with a retired serviceman.

Another photo shows Princess Anne clasping her hands together (a gesture often used by Her Majesty during public appearances) as she talks to a guest at the party dedicated to the Not Forgotten Association, which is a tri-service charity that provides entertainment, leisure and recreation for wounded, injured, sick or retired service men and woman, per their website.

In the caption of the post, the royal fam shared more details about the traditional event. “A beautiful afternoon at Buckingham Palace for @the.not.forgotten Garden Party, hosted by The Princess Royal,” it read. “An annual tradition since 1921, the event brings together over 2,000 ex-servicemen and women for a special afternoon in the garden.”

Apparently, I’m not the only one who has observed striking similarities between Princess Anne and her late mother. In fact, body language expert Darren Stanton spoke to Daily Express back in August 2023 and shared how the mother-daughter pair had so much in common—especially when it came to their shared sense of humor.

“She was happy to parody herself, so one of her key traits is her great sense of humor, which is what the Queen was rumored to have,” he said at the time. "In terms of her character traits, she is very similar to her mother. When she walks, she also has her same posture, so there are many similarities between her and the Queen.”
