Prince William Reveals What He Plans to Do After Returning Home from Singapore — and Prince George May Join!

The Prince of Wales opened up in a rare Q&A on the Instagram page he shared with his wife, Princess Kate

Prince William is unwinding in a relatable way after the Earthshot Prize — and it's likely that Prince George will want in!

On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales, 41, participated in a rare question and answer session shared on the official Instagram account he shares with his wife, Kate Middleton. On an Instagram Story, which expires after 24 hours, Prince William revealed his plans to watch the latest game of his favorite soccer team, Aston Villa, when he got home from Singapore.

Prince William made a solo trip to Singapore for the third annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony, which kicked off with an inaugural Earthshot Week on Monday and was glamorously highlighted by a prize ceremony on Tuesday. King Charles’ elder son launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020 to promote impactful approaches to the world's most pressing environmental challenges, with plans to award five £1 million ($1.2 million) prizes to changemakers in five categories each year until 2030.

While the rare Q&A session focused largely on Earthshot — where William said he thought the best part of the prize ceremony was “hearing the stories and seeing the winners do their acceptance speech" but stayed mum on disclosing next year’s location — he had a fun reply when asked about his favorite soccer squad. The Prince of Wales is President of the Football Association, which governs the sport in England, and roots for Aston Villa — a passion he’s passed down to Prince George, 10.

Prince William snapped into fan mode when asked which team would win the European Cup this year.

“I should say, will Villa win a European cup this year, is probably more accurate,” he joked. “I would like to think they would. I think we've got a good chance in the Europa Conference league. And actually, we get back tomorrow, and I'm rather looking forward to tuning into Villa's game against Alkmaar, which will be at Villa Park."

Prince William then disclosed that he considered attending the game but thought better of it considering jet lag due to the eight-hour time difference between Singapore and England, joking, "I think I might actually fall asleep watching the game."

“But I’ll be watching it from home, cheering on the Villains,” he said.

All bets are on that Prince George joined his dad for the viewing party at home, as the young royal has joined his father in the Villa stands on several occasions. In April, Prince George and Prince William went to a home game together and eagerly cheered on the team, where the dad and lad animatedly had the same expressions!

Watching the Aston Villa game would be a treat for Prince George, who has spent the week buckled down with exams at the Lambrook School. Prince William and Princess Kate’s eldest son is reportedly taking the ISEB Common Pre-Tests, which are used in the U.K. as a precursor for entry into senior schools. Some speculate that plans are in motion for George to follow in his mom or dad’s footsteps at Marlborough College or Eton College in a few years following royal visits to both schools in recent months.

Prince William even referenced the tests when explaining why Princess Kate wasn't with him in Singapore for the Earthshot Prize, shaking up precedent from past years.

“Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here. She is helping George through his first set of major exams,” Prince William said in a speech at the United for Wildlife summit on Monday morning, one of many engagements from his short Singapore stay.

PEOPLE learned in September that Princess Kate, 41, would not join her husband at the third annual ceremony for the environmental prize because the inaugural Earthshot Week coincided with Prince George's exams. Instead, the royal mom stayed home in Windsor to support her eldest son.

If Thursday’s Aston Villa game against AZ Alkmaar is a watch party at the Wales’ house, there’s a good chance that Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, are tuning in too! Prince William mentioned that his younger two children might become fans during a stop in Birmingham, Hello! reported.

“George is generally very happy with Villa, Louis will hopefully choose his own team and Charlotte's just getting into football, so we'll see,” the Prince of Wales said in the spring.
