Prince William Receives New Title Amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 'Megxit' Decision

Responsibilities Continue to Pile On For Prince William, Amid 'Megxit'

The position as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland was previously held by Richard Scott, the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and 12th Duke of Queensberry. Prior to that, Princess Anne held the position.

While Prince William inherited many of the responsibilities forfeited by Prince Harry upon the 'Megxit' controversy, he will now have even more on his plate as the role involves him having to carry out reoccurring official visits to the country, as well as, participate in ceremonial duties, regularly.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Host UK-Africa Investment Summit

With the departure of Prince Harry and Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been doing their best to maintain the image of the royal family despite all the negative attention the fiasco has generated. Just recently, the couple hosted a royal engagement at Buckingham Palace on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II for the UK-Africa Investment Summit. While Harry wasn't present in London, he participated in three other countries, meeting with their leaders. During the summit reception, though, Prince William gave a speech sharing him and Kate Middleton's connection to the region.

'The African Continent Holds a Very Special Place in My Heart'

During Prince William's speech, he stated how the region held a special place in his heart as the continent that his father first took his brother and him after their mother was tragically killed in a car accident in 1997 fleeing from the paparazzi. He also mentioned that it is where he went to propose to his wife, Kate Middleton.

"The African continent holds a very special place in my heart,” the prince said. “It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died. And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee."

How Long Will Prince William Be Able to Maintain Increasing Amounts of Responsibilities?

While the new royal appointment by Queen Elizabeth II to Prince William isn't directly related to Prince Harry's 'step back' from responsibilities, it's worth noting that with the number of duties he's had to take on since 'Megxit' is becoming increasingly worrying. This is more time that he will have to spend away from his family, something that could manifest negative consequences in the future. We'll have to see if any responsibilities can be spread around to others in the family, for Prince William and Kate's sanity and well-being.
