A day for the history books. Prince William and Princess Kate looked nothing short of regal while arriving at King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday, May 6.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Westminster Abbey sporing their “formal robe and mantle at the request of the King and Queen,” according to BBC. By their side were children Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, matching their parents in white and royal blue attire, respectively. Charlotte’s look particularly complimented her mother’s, as both wore white Alexander McQueen dresses and stunning headpieces by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen.

The couple’s eldest son, Prince George, 9, did not arrive alongside them, as he was among Charles’ four Pages of Honor. He matched his fellow pages in a red royal uniform.

Charles’ coronation comes less than one year after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, upon which he immediately assumed the throne. William in turn moved up the royal line of succession since his father took over as King of England. Charles’ eldest son inherited his former title of Prince of Wales and is now first in line for the throne. George, Charlotte and Louis follow their father as second, third and fourth in line, ranking above their uncle Prince Harry and his children.

William and his wife, now Princess of Wales, also earned the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall after Elizabeth’s death, in addition to being the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Likewise, their kids were named Princes and Princess of Cornwall and Cambridge.

The Royal Air force vet’s royal future is set in stone after Charles’ reign. In May 2021, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that William — whose mother is the late Princess Diana — was already “thinking about the future of the Monarchy and the changes he’ll make” when he ascends to the throne. “While he respects protocol, he plans to modernize some aspects and is making it his mission to be more relatable than previous generations,” the insider added.

The parents of three have already cemented themselves as a modern royal couple, from poking fun at each other to showing PDA at public events. Earlier this year, the couple got competitive while racing each other during a spin class on a trip to Wales in February — and Kate emerged victorious.

Ahead of Charles’ official crowning, William has been a trusty confidant of his father. According to a course, the pair seem to share similar plans for their time as kings and hope to “guide each other” and work “very closely” over the years.

The insider told Us in February 2022: “William is excited about this new chapter in his life and the challenges he’ll be facing.”

The coronation marked the first time William and Kate attended a public event with Harry, 38, since the queen’s funeral in September 2022. The Spare author arrived across the pond without his wife, Meghan Markle.

Last month, a source exclusively told Us that the former Suits star, 41, decided not to travel for the event because it falls on the 4th birthday of the pair’s son, Archie. “Despite being the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan is a mom first,” the insider noted. The couple also share their 23-month-old daughter Lilibet.
