Prince William Gives Rare Update on Kate Middleton's Health

When Kate Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22, she emphasized her desire for privacy.

"We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment," the Princess of Wales said in a moving video message. "My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery."

After the news broke, the Wales family retreated from the public eye as their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—had Easter break. Once the holiday ended, Prince William resumed public duties. And yesterday, while visiting James Place Newcastle in Tyne, England, he responded to well-wishers asking about his wife and children. "All doing well," he said, a rare update on Kate's health.

Since Kate's abdominal surgery in January, William has kept to a policy of not really commenting on Kate's health, which is in line with Kensington Palace not offering ongoing updates on the Princess of Wales.

Shortly after Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said, "The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness' message. They are extremely moved by the public's warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time."
