Prince William Calls Wife Kate Middleton 'the Arty One' amid Mother's Day Photo Controversy

"My wife is the arty one. And my children are more arty than I am," the Prince of Wales explained as he decorated a cookie during a recent outing

Prince William had something sweet to say about Kate Middleton’s artistic skills amid the Mother's Day photo drama.

On Thursday, the Prince of Wales, 41, opened the new youth zone WEST in Hammersmith, west London, and self-deprecatingly knocked his creative skills while icing a cookie in a community kitchen.

"Very impressed by your artistry, Your Highness," said a voice off-camera in a clip shared to Instagram by the BBC.

"No, it's really not impressive. My wife is the arty one. And my children are more arty than I am," Prince William said, referring to Princess Kate and their three kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. According to the Daily Mail, Prince William added that Prince Louis "loves sprinkles, so I'm going to put some more on here."

The Princess of Wales, 42, majored in history of art at the University of St. Andrews and has pursued photography as a hobby in recent years, often hopping behind the camera for her children’s birthday and other milestone moments.

Prince William’s comment came three days after his wife issued a surprise apology to social media for "any confusion" around her Mother’s Day photo published on Sunday after multiple global photo agencies pulled the picture, the first official portrait of Kate her abdominal surgery on Jan. 16, due to suspicion of manipulation.

"Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused," Princess Kate wrote on X and her Instagram Story on Monday. "I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day."

An investigation of the metadata by Sky News later indicated the original image was saved in Adobe Photoshop on March 8 and 9. Instagram also added an "altered" warning to the image following a review by fact-checkers amid the controversy.

Prince William continued with royal duty following his wife’s apology, attending the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey and a kickoff celebration for The Earthshot Prize Launchpad on Monday. The following day, the Prince of Wales attended the private funeral of Thomas Kingston, the husband of his cousin, Lady Gabriella, who died on Feb. 25 at age 45.

Prince William returned to work on Thursday with the visit to WEST in Hammersmith and was the guest of honor at the 25th anniversary of the Diana Award charity that evening. The glittering event at London’s Science Museum paid tribute to the latest 20 winners of the Legacy Award for the young people’s organization founded in memory of Princess Diana two years after her death following a Paris car crash in 1997.

In a speech, Prince William said, "I’m thoroughly delighted to be here today to recognize the transformational achievements of twenty exceptional young people from across the world. Each and every one of their stories, which you will hear shortly, are testament to their character, passion and determination to make a lasting and meaningful difference to the lives of others."

He continued, "The paths taken by these young people have not always been easy. Many have overcome adversity and prejudice, but they are driven by courage, compassion and commitment — qualities shared by my mother."

After the Prince of Wales left the event, his brother Prince Harry video chatted into the awards to connect with winners from his home in California, where he lives with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
