Prince William proved that Kate Middleton is still at the forefront of his mind during a recent outing as he proudly took gifts home for his wife who is recovering from cancer treatment.

On Monday, May 13, William travelled to the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, alongside his father, King Charles III, to begin his first day as the new Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. The father-son duo attended a ceremony where Charles transitioned his son into the role.

While the Princess of Wales did not join her husband, she was certainly there is spirit and received a sweet gesture from William and the Army Air Corps after the ceremony. According to The DailyMail’s Rebecca Black, William took home “an AAC tartan wrap for the Princess of Wales, a scarf for himself, and three wooden helicopters for their children.”

William, who previously served as a search and rescue pilot for three years early in his relationship with Kate, was seen meeting with soldiers in his regiment and even took a flight in an Apache helicopter. Charles, who proudly handed over the new military honor, a title which he previously held, to his oldest son, told crowds that William was a “very good pilot” and fit for the role.

However, as royal fans have pointed out, William’s appointment means he will effectively lead the regiment that his estranged brother, Prince Harry, once served in. Harry formerly served with the Army Air Corps between 2012 and 2013, after previously serving on active duty in Afghanistan.

Kate has remained on the forefront of the British public’s mind since she revealed her cancer diagnosis back in March. The princess stepped back from public duties in January to undergo an abdominal surgery and later revealed that she would be undergoing preventative chemotherapy. The Royals have been coy about her health since then.

Last week, sources suggested that William was hyper-focused on his wife’s recovery and was doing everything in his power to support her. “For William, everything hinges on Kate’s well-being,” one insider told People.

“William is prioritizing giving her all the time she needs to get better and the support, particularly to the children,” said another. Charles, meanwhile, recently returned to public-facing duties after revealing his own cancer diagnosis in February.
