Prince William’s Bond With His In-Laws Sheds a Light on His 'Chilly' Relationship With These Royals

In order to be there for his wife, Kate Middleton, Prince William has counted on many friends and family for support. And while it may seem to many that the royal family is fragile and vulnerable right now, it seems a few family bonds have only gotten stronger during the crisis.

As previously reported, for example, William and his mother-in-law Carole Middleton have relied on each other more than ever during Kate’s battle with cancer. In fact, the two were spotted chatting at a pub earlier this month.

According to royal expert Christopher Andersen for Fox News, William’s trust in Carole has indeed filed a void for the royal. “[Carole] has been the closest thing to a mother [he] has,” Andersen said, per New York Post.

As a reminder, William lost his mother, the late Princess Diana, when he was just 15 years old.

“She has always been there for him as much as he has for Kate,” the royal author continued.

And while we’re glad to hear William has such a strong bond with his mother-in-law, their connection also highlights how other members of the family, including Queen Camilla and King Charles, haven’t been as present and supportive.

“On the other hand, the relationship between William and his actual stepmother, Queen Camilla, has always been chilly,” Andersen said. “William can count on Camilla to focus on the King and her own grandchildren, and that’s about it.”

“In many ways, he is closer to [Kate’s father, Michael], and Carole Middleton, than he ever was with his own father,” the expert continued, adding that William feels comfortable enough to “relax and be himself” around the Middletons.

So while William’s bond with his in-laws is enviable, it’s a shame to know that his own father and stepmom haven’t stepped up for him during this time. After all, knowing the mother of your three children is undergoing treatment for cancer must be stressful and worrying beyond words. May he get all the love, support and strength he can get.
