A Deluge Of Horrible Coverage

Since she started dating Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has dealt with dishonest journalism and outright cruelty and racism from the British tabloids. They have accused her of every social crime under the sun and aired her private family drama in a very demeaning manner. Even after the couple was married, the attacks didn't stop.

Taking Legal Action

Things have gotten so bad that the royal couple is taking legal action against The Mail On Sunday and its publisher, Associated Newspapers, after they printed a private letter that Markle wrote to her estranged father. In a statement, Prince Harry laid into the papers over their treatment of his wife.

"There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour, because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this."

Harry's Deepest Fear

Ultimately, Harry doesn't want Meghan to have to suffer at the hands of the press that hounded his mother, Diana, to her death.

"My wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences. My deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."

While Harry clearly wants to cover the multitude of sins perpetrated against Meghan, the legal case is focusing on the letter, "one incident in a long and disturbing pattern of behavior by British tabloid media."
