Just days after Adele credited a book with helping her “let go”, it seems a fellow British high-profile LA resident, Prince Harry, is also embracing his spiritual side.
The Duke of Sussex, 35, has revealed he is a fan of a self-help guru beloved of Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Oprah Winfrey, and of his wife Meghan Markle.
The royal father-of-one said that he “absolutely adores” Dr Brené Brown in a video call made alongside the Duchess of Sussex.
During an online event for the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, a participant quoted the professor and writer, 54, who rose to prominence after a her TED Talk on vulnerability went viral in 2010.
The duke told Hunter Johnson, the founder of Australian charity The Man Cave, that he likewise admired her teachings – which also focus on courage and overcoming shame.
Johnson had quoted Brown as saying: “Vulnerability brings connection, and connection is why we are here.”
This prompted the Queen’s grandson to smile at his wife, before responding: “I love the fact you're quoting Brené Brown.”
Last year, the duchess, 39, asked the lecturer to pen an article for the September issue of British Vogue she guest-edited, titled ‘Speak Your Truth. Follow Your Wild Heart’.
In the piece, Brown wrote: “The only foolproof strategy I’ve come up with so far is this: owning our story, owning what we believe, and loving ourselves is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.
“Do the world a favour: speak your truth. Follow your wild heart.”
Her other high-profile fans include actress Goop founder Paltrow, who has called her “one of the most influential people in our culture right now”.
It comes after Adele revealed her outlook on life had changed since reading the memoir Untamed: stop pleasing, start living.
The singer, 32, praised the self-help book, written by Glennon Doyle, and credited it with helping her find herself.
She posted a photo of the book’s cover on Instagram, captioning it: “If you’re ready – this book will shake your brain and make your soul scream. I am so ready for myself after reading this book! It’s as if I just flew into my body for the very first time.
“Whew! Anyone who has any kind of capacity to truly let go and give into yourself with any kind of desire to hold on for dear life – Do it. Read it. Live it. Practice it. We are a lot! But we are meant to be a lot!
“I never knew that I am solely responsible for my own joy, happiness and freedom!! Who knew our own liberation liberates those around us? Cause I didn’t!!”
