While many of us enjoy watching The Crown to know more about the inner workings of the British royal family, it seems that the royals themselves have less of a fondness towards the show. In fact, sources recently stated that Prince Harry, who admitted to being a fan of the show back in January, has stopped watching the Netflix hit altogether.
“Due to the sensitive nature of content in upcoming episodes of The Crown, Prince Harry has understandably decided not to view this season,” a source told Page Six. As any fan of the show could tell you, the first part of the sixth season of the show, which was released on Nov. 16, addresses the last days and tragic death of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.

In addition to showing Diana’s final days, including her budding romance with Egyptian film producer Dodi Fayed, the show also depicts a 12-year-old Harry finding out about his mother’s death and even walking behind her casket during her funeral.

And although we understand why Harry’s taken this sudden 180 on his feelings towards the show – after all, reliving those moments would definitely bring up some old wounds – the source reiterated that there’s no bad blood between him and the streaming giant. “There are no ill feelings towards the show’s creators or Netflix,” the source added about the partnership between Netflix and Harry, who have a multi-million dollar deal between them.
Prior to Harry’s change of heart, it seems like the Duke was quite a fan of the show. “Yes, I have actually watched The Crown,” Harry admitted in an appearance at The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “The older stuff and the most recent stuff,” he added.
“Do you fact-check it while you watch it?” Colbert followed-up, to which Harry jokingly mimicked taking notes. “Yes I do actually,” he said garnering laughter from the audience. “Which, by the way, another reason why it’s so important that history has it right!”
And while it must be a shame for Harry not to be able to enjoy the final season of a beloved show, we understand why he’s chosen to take the show out of his “must-watch list,” at least for now.
