Prince Harry is getting candid about his most important role: dad.

The Duke of Sussex, who is in Canada for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025's One Year to Go celebrations alongside wife Meghan Markle, 42, opened up to Good Morning America on Friday about life in California with the couple's children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2.

When asked what Harry, 39, the dad is like, the prince replied, "I can't tell you. That's classified. It's top secret!"

"No, the kids are doing great," he continued. "The kids are growing up like all kids do, very, very fast. They've both got an incredible sense of humor and make us laugh and keep us grounded every single day, like most kids do. I'm just grateful to be a dad."

Harry also addressed his relationship with his father King Charles, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. When asked how he first learned about his father's cancer diagnosis, Harry told GMA, "I spoke to him. And I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could."

“Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane, go and see him, and spend any time with him — I’m grateful for that," Harry said in the interview, which aired Friday morning.

As for whether King Charles' diagnosis could have a "reunifying effect" on the royal family, Harry, who is connecting with Invictus Games competitors and their families this week, said: "Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families, I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.”

He also shared that he has "other trips planned that would take me to the U.K. or back to the U.K., so I'll stop in and see my family again."

Prince Harry's personal life has changed greatly since launching the Invictus Games in 2014, most notably becoming a husband and father.

"Being a dad certainly adds another emotional layer to it," Harry told PEOPLE in 2022. "When I was in the Army, I promised myself I would be out before having a wife and kids, because I couldn't imagine the heartache of being apart for so long during deployment, the risk of possibly getting injured, and the reality that my family's lives could be changed forever if that happened."

Meghan and Harry have adopted their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as the last name for their children. While Archie and Lilibet were previously known as "Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor" and "Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor," the children were afforded the titles of prince and princess when their grandfather King Charles became monarch in Sept. 2022.

PEOPLE understands that Sussex is their family surname. Using their titles as their children's last names follows the tradition used by members of the royal family.

While Archie and Lilibet stayed back at home in Montecito while their parents traveled to Canada this week, they were on the couple's minds as they took part in sporting events.

Meghan borrowed a phone to take a photo of her husband sitting in an adaptive ski so she could "show the kids," according to Hello! magazine.

When it comes to bringing Archie and Lili to the Invictus Games, an adaptive sports competition for veterans and service personnel, Prince Harry told PEOPLE in 2022, "We can't wait!" — and revealed he's already introduced the competition to his son.

"I showed Archie a video of wheelchair basketball and rugby from the Invictus Games in Sydney, and he absolutely loved it," Harry shared.
