Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Will Give Up 'Royal Highness' Titles

Queen Elizabeth II has bid Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, goodbye but their new life in Canada comes with a hefty price tag. The duo must give up their royal highness titles and pay back 2.4 million pounds of taxpayers' money which was spent on renovating their home by Windsor Castle. reports the Associated Press.Buckingham Palace also revealed on Saturday that the former Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be able to receive public funds from now on.

The shocking news comes after Queen Elizabeth II revealed the Royal Family has come to an agreement with Harry and Meghan Meghan Markle following what's been labeled "Megxit." In a statement released on social media, she stated she was pleased that “together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family." She also showed love to Prince Harry's bride by saying she was "particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family."

The Queen's Statement:

Queen Elizabeth II also addressed her great-grandson, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in the statement revealing, "Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.” Her statement continues, "I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life. I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond. It is my whole family's hope that today's agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."

Giving Up More Than a Title:

Besides their titles, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are also giving up their military appointments. Buckingham Palace released a statement saying, "They will no longer receive public funds for royal duties. With the Queen's blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent the Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty." It also stated, "The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family."
