Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kicked off 2023 with the launch of his memoir, Spare, and the headlines just took off from there. It’s been a rocky year for the royal family, but it seems like the Sussexes are going to be the first of the feuding group to truly try to make peace with some of their estranged relatives.

The stateside duo won’t be with King Charles III over the Christmas holiday at Sandringham, but it looks like Harry and Meghan will continue to offer him an olive branch. The couple broke the ice on his 75th birthday and they hope to warm the waters further since it is the holiday season. “Harry and Meghan’s new strategy is reconciliation,” a palace insider told Page Six. 

The Sussexes’ attempt to broker peace comes on the heels of a tumultuous year filled with “royal racists” accusations, a coronation, and plenty of drama to fill more several seasons of The Crown, if the show ever wants to return. However, Prince Harry is on the heels of turning 40, and the source noted that he doesn’t want too much time to pass without his family getting to know Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2.

This will be the fifth Christmas that the royal family isn’t all together, but maybe Harry and Meghan’s continued efforts will make a difference for the 2024 holidays. It doesn’t seem like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton is currently reparable, but maybe as the news starts to slow down, the healing will begin. The most imperative issue on the table is Harry finding a way back to his dad. “Of course Harry wants to have a better relationship with Charles,” a second source revealed. “He is his father after all.” Maybe reconciliation will be the Christmas miracle that the entire royal family needs.
