When it was revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were evicted from Frogmore Cottage earlier this year, the blame fell squarely upon King Charles III’s shoulders. It was reported that this was a part of his punishment for his youngest son writing his memoir, Spare. Now, Omid Scobie’s upcoming book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, is alleging that there’s another villain in the room.

The author claims that it was Princess Anne, who encouraged her older brother to remove the stateside couple from the Windsor lodging. According to an excerpt obtained by The Telegraph, Anne was “at the forefront of the supporters of the firm approach” of how to handle the Sussexes in the wake of Harry’s book and the couple’s Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. Scobie writes that Princess Anne “is said to have persuaded Charles to withdraw the use of Frogmore Cottage.” Well, that certainly adds a new twist to the family feud.

Even at King Charles’ coronation, the media played up the affectionate relationship between Anne and Harry. They shared a cheeky moment together before the ceremony which many royal watchers called out warmly amid the family feud. It makes us scratch our heads and wonder if Harry and Meghan had any inkling as to who was betraying them in the royal family — if Scobie’s allegations are true. The author also noted that Prince Edward felt “uneasy” about the real estate move and was the only family member concerned about it affecting Prince Harry’s mental health.

What made the eviction so perplexing is that Frogmore Cottage was a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Sussexes had spent a significant amount of money on refurbishing the place (they paid back the taxpayers). Scobie wrote that Harry had a very hurt reaction to the news, and reportedly said to his father, “You don’t want to see your grandchildren anymore?” King Charles had big plans to give the Sussexes’ home to Prince Andrew, but he firmly remained at Royal Lodge while Frogmore Cottage now sits vacant.
