Last fall, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started making unexpected appearances that the media knew nothing about. The Duchess of Sussex surprisingly popped on a Variety Power of Women red carpet and the duo attended a Vancouver Canucks hockey game without a single press release going out so everybody knew they would be there. Welcome to the Sussexes’ new PR strategy.

Their privacy plan is working very well for them as they turned up in Jamaica on Tuesday night for the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love. Royal critics will say they probably were there to have all of the attention focused on them, but they were there to show their support for the film. They posed for red-carpet photos and then went into the theater — not a single interview was given because it wasn’t their project.

This refreshing approach is working well for them. Harry and Meghan will draw positive attention to the movie that “celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity,” according to the synopsis. Their red-carpet photos didn’t even overshadow the event because they only posed in group shots with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and another shot with the president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, Brian Robbins.

Meghan wore a simple, yet elegant, spaghetti-strap black dress while Harry opted for his favorite blue suit with a crisp white shirt. Their low-key wardrobe also reflected the nature of their attendance at the premiere — they weren’t there to be showstoppers. After a year of tumultuous headlines, the California couple is finding a balance and figuring out the best way to handle their post-royal lives.

“They know of their supposed failures and how it’s viewed, but they have almost gone more tech than Hollywood. Fail big and all that,” the source told People last fall. “They have swapped in and out all sorts of projects and people and are embarking on a total system reboot.” And it looks like we are seeing the renaissance blossom right before our eyes — Harry and Meghan are starting over with a fresh, understated approach.
