Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation Remains Compliant Amid Payment Mix-Up

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just made appearances in London and Nigeria for their Invictus Games Foundation, but another one of their charities is making headlines. According to Page Six, the Archewell Foundation was declared “delinquent” by the Attorney General of California, Rob Bonta, on May 3.
A delinquency notice on behalf of the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers was sent to the Archewell Foundation “for failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees.” Per the letter obtained by the outlet, “An organization that is listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is prohibited from engaging in conduct for which registration is required, including soliciting or disbursing charitable funds. The organization may also be subject to penalties and its registration may be suspended or revoked by the Registry. Once you submit the delinquent record(s), you will be notified of the amount of any late fees that are owed.”
The plot thickens, though, as a source told People that Meghan and Harry’s Archewell Foundation filed and sent a check on time but that it was never received. The foundation only noticed once they were issued with the delinquency notice, and the insider added that they sent a new check and expect the issue to “be quickly resolved and reflected in the records within the next seven business days.”

On May 14, a rep for the Archewell Foundation clarified the situation, saying, "We have diligently investigated the situation and can confirm that The Archewell Foundation remains fully compliant and in good standing. Due payments were made promptly and in accordance with the IRS’s processes and procedures. Furthermore, all necessary paperwork had been filed by the Foundation without error or wrongdoing."
Meghan and Harry founded the nonprofit when they stepped back as working royals in 2020. “Our mission is simple: show up, do good. We meet the moment by showing up, taking action and using our unparalleled spotlight to uplift and unite communities—local and global—through acts of service and compassion,” the Archewell Foundation’s website reads. The organization also strives to “uplift and unite communities.”
