Prince Harry Just Broke Royal Protocol to Take a Picture of Meghan Markle

The title of “Insta-husband” looks good on Prince Harry. During a site visit to the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday, October 16, both Harry and Meghan Markle stepped out to greet cheering fans parked outside of the venue as they continue with their first official joint tour abroad.

Along with greeting Harry’s devoted 98-year-old fan Daphne Dunne, the pair also reacted to another special face in the crowd: a young girl wearing a shirt that read, “Girls Can Do Anything.”

Initially, the fan caught the Duke of Sussex’s attention, who then waved his wife over. “Do you want to meet my wife?” he asked as Markle walked over. Someone in the crowd then noted how the little girl resembled a young Markle, which prompted the former actress to enthusiastically agree.

“I was literally about to say the same thing!” Markle replied. “And I love your shirt.”

While other fans were vying for the attention of the couple—currently expecting their first child together—Prince Harry gallantly agreed to another gesture. He decided to snap a photo of the girl with Markle. (It was a rare break in royal protocol, especially for Harry, since the palace enforces the policy banning autographs and selfies. He’s traditionally adhered to the policy with his many public appearances.)

The couple’s tour coincides with more happy news. The pair announced on Monday that they’re expecting their first child together. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” the palace statement read.
