It’s hard to picture Prince Harry with anyone other than Meghan Markle now but, apparently, she isn’t the only American actress the Brit royalty has taken a liking to. Per a new report, Prince Harry almost dated Jennifer Aniston — or at least that’s how he apparently hoped it would turn out when he reportedly slid into the Friends star’s text messages.

According to the U.K.’s Mirror, a new book and documentary about the Duke of Sussex claim that Harry became “obsessed” with Aniston in 2009. That year, she famously appeared on the cover of GQ magazine — wearing nothing but a red, white and blue tie. It was at that point the young prince became intent on scoring a date with the comedic actress. “Harry was infatuated with Jen for years. He told friends she was ‘princess material.’ He visited LA and was partying heavily with models there,” U.S. writer Ian Halperin wrote in the new book, noting that Harry’s thoughts were on Aniston the entire time. “He told a close friend his favorite actress was Jen and got her number. He texted her and send emojis.”

This clearly begs two questions: First of all, what emojis?! And, most pointedly, did Jen get the message(s)? Said Halperin, “One source told me Jen was aware of Harry’s crush but didn’t want to lead him on because of the age difference.”

Of course, unless Jen or Harry confirm any of this speculation, we have to take it with a grain of salt. Especially since Mirror reached out to Jen’s reps, and a spokesperson was adamant that “the claims are false.” Halperin has doubled down on his claims, though, insisting he spoke to everyone, from Jen’s friends to her household staff and even an ex-boyfriend. “I stand by everything in the film and book,” he told Mirror.

What is interesting to note is that Harry ultimately did end up with an American TV star — and like Aniston’s character in friends, Meghan’s character in Suits was named Rachel. A coincidence, yes, but a fun one nonetheless.

In real life, Harry and Meghan celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary on May 19 and recently enjoyed their first Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as new parents to baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Just this past Sunday, the Duke and Duchess offered the first close-up glimpse of their son’s face as part of a Father’s Day tribute to Harry and all the other hands-on dads out there.

So, things seem to have ended up exactly how they should have. Although let it be said, Aniston will always be royalty in our book — prince or no prince.
