Friend of Prince Discusses Origins of Musician’s Addiction but Remains Tight-Lipped About His Death

On Wednesday’s CBS This Morning, reporter Jamie Yuccas talked to one of Prince’s close friends, Kirk Johnson, about the musician’s final days. Johnson played drums for the late musician and was best man at his first wedding.

Johnson said about the origins of Prince’s apparent addiction to painkillers, “We danced a lot. I mean, I feel the effects of dancing. You know, your joints get, you know, hurt.”

When asked about Prince’s last days, Johnson said, pointing to his head, “Kirk has a vault right here that won’t be unlocked.”

He went on to say that he wanted to respect the pop star’s privacy. Johnson also would not answer questions about opioid addiction or whether people closest to the singer enabled his addiction.
