The royal family is keeping a Christmas tradition.

On Wednesday, the royals gathered at Windsor Castle for the annual Christmas lunch hosted by King Charles ahead of the holiday. According to the Daily Mail, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh were among the first arrivals, and were spotted driving with their daughter Lady Louise Windsor, 20. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are also parents to son James, Earl of Wessex, 16, who was not photographed with them on Wednesday.

Close behind was Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, who traveled together in another car. Later, Princess Eugenie hopped behind the wheel with husband Jack Brooksbank, and her father Prince Andrew was also snapped in a backseat.

Though the Duke of York, 63, is no longer a working royal after Queen Elizabeth stripped him of his military titles and patronages in January 2022 after he was accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, an alleged victim of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, he has continued to attend private family events like holiday celebrations. Prince Andrew has denied any wrongdoing and settled with Giuffre out of court in February 2022.

Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall were also spotted leaving the lunch, as was her son Peter Phillips with his daughters Savannah, 12, and Isla, 11.

Others photographed at Windsor on Wednesday included Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Margaret’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto, royal family friend Penny Knatchbull and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who is married to Princess Beatrice.

Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, were not snapped entering or exiting — perhaps because of an especially quick commute! In 2022, the family moved to Adelaide Cottage on the vast grounds of Windsor Castle.

Prince William and Princess Kate, both 41, are regulars at the holiday event, along with their children. After being canceled in 2020 and 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the lunch was put on again last year. Although the lunch was normally held at Buckingham Palace in London during the reign of Queen Elizabeth, members of the family were spotted driving into Windsor Castle for the 2022 event hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Although it's a private family gathering, royal fans got a look inside Buckingham Palace before the lunch in 2019. Queen Elizabeth was joined by her three heirs — son then-Prince Charles, grandson Prince William and great-grandson Prince George — to support an initiative by the Royal British Legion: preparing four special Christmas puddings, which traditionally bring good luck.

Kensington Palace shared a video on Instagram showing Prince George, then just 6, working hard at stirring his pudding.

Earlier this month, many members of the royal family got in the Christmas spirit at Princess Kate's third annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey. In addition to Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, royals in attendance included Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara, Peter and the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Christmas is full of traditions for the British royal family. This year, they will likely gather again at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where they exchange inexpensive gag gifts on Christmas Eve and walk to church on Christmas morning, followed by a turkey feast and watching King Charles' Christmas address on TV in the afternoon.
