With the announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moving to North America and relinquishing their duties as senior members of the royal family, panic and anger are beginning to set in with other members, including Harry's father, Prince Charles, his brother, Prince William, and the queen, herself.
Up until this point, we were not given any knowledge on the immediate reactions by the other family members, but reports are steadily coming in that this unprecedented move by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has ruffled the feathers of those closest to them. One British publication has already dubbed this 'a declaration of war on the family' and has coined it 'Megexit'.
Negative Reactions within the Royal Family Abounding
It can't be easy having to deal with a close family member packing up and moving thousands of miles away on such short notice, especially given the tension that the members of the royal family have been experiencing over the tumultuous 2019 year.
But according to a source speaking with The Sun, the couple's decision to not consult the family and post a bombshell announcement on their Instagram page has left Prince Charles and Prince William with 'incandescent rage', while they also noted that Queen Elisbabeth II, Harry's grandmother, is 'deeply upset'.
The Decision to Move Breaks All Protocol
The same source elaborated on the anger from the royal family stemming from the lack of respect for protocol and the consideration of others.
"Their statement was not cleared with anyone. It breaks all protocol," the source said. "There is fury over how they've done this without any thought for the implications for the institution. The Queen is deeply upset. The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are incandescent with rage."
It also seems that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not willing to negotiate with anyone, not even their family. "Harry and Meghan wanted it their way or the highway," the source added. "So they've gone and exiled themselves from the Royal Family. It's extraordinary."
The Queen Provides Her Own Statement
Buckingham Palace issued a formal statement on the couple's move, citing that the process was still in the infant stages and much more would need to be discussed moving forward.
"We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through," the palace statement read.
The Daily Mail reported on the nature in which the rest of the family found out about the couple's decision and according to their source, it was a very unfair way to approach their exit from the family's duties and everyday life.
"It's deeply unfair to the Queen, who doesn't deserve to be treated this way," the source shared. "It is a shoddy way to treat her. The family understands that they want to do something different and is perfectly willing to help them. People are just devastated."
Prince William and Kate Middleton 'Blindsided'
Even Prince Harry's brother, William and wife Kate Middleton, were completely blindsided by the Sussex's decision. A source speaking with the Us Weekly shared, "There's still a rift between the two brothers," the source said Wednesday, referring to tension that occurred when Harry and Markle moved from London to their current home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. "It's sad because when they were younger, William would be the first person Harry would go to with big news like this."
It's unclear when exactly the couple will be moving to North America, but it's safe to say that things will be tense within the royal family for the foreseeable future.
