There's one surprising fan of Netflix's new film, Scoop, which recreates Prince Andrew's disastrous 2019 interview with BBC Newsnight: Prince Andrew himself.

A friend of the Duke of York spoke with the Daily Beast—with royal correspondent Tom Sykes noting that the friend "has spoken to the prince since the one-off film was released"—and shared that Prince Andrew is "delighted" with Rufus Sewell's portrayal. "Obviously Andrew regrets doing the interview, and if he had his time again he wouldn’t do it. That said, he feels Scoop is much more even-handed than he expected. It’s fair to say he was delighted by Rufus Sewell’s portrayal of him," the friend shared. Another friend told the publication, "I think the show, to the satisfaction of everyone who actually knows the guy, made clear that Andrew was an extremely good convener of people."

As the film shows, Prince Andrew thought the interview went well, so it's not that surprising that he also thinks the movie is positive, even though it places his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein firmly back in the spotlight.

Sewell, who plays Andrew in the film, told Town & Country he was wary of making any statements on Andrew. "I have my feelings about what went on, but this is something I wouldn't like to make a bold statement about," he said. "I like to think that whatever shows in my performance is there."
